Drugs & Medicines Alert – Medicines Waste Bin

Message sent on behalf of Jeanette Ferguson, Senior Pharmacy Technician Dear Colleagues, Please all be aware of an alert regarding medicines waste bins. As you will read in the alert, the Bio bin boxes that are currently used to dispose of non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste e.g. broken ampoules, are no longer being used. They are being replaced with blue lidded ridged bins, as shown in the alert.

Changes to the layout of cardiac pouches

As you will read in the alert sent out today, the layout of the pouches is being altered to try to address the high number of ampoule breakages in the pouches.   This is a short-term measure and we are reviewing the cardiac pouch for a longer term solution but we need to take action now to address this, as it poses a risk to both staff and patients.   If you have any queries on this, please email
