Schools, colleges and young person’s organisations across the south east are being encouraged to sign up to the annual Restart a Heart Day.
The initiative, led by the Resuscitation Council UK in partnership with organisations including the British Heart Foundation and ambulance services across the country, sees thousands of young people learn CPR and how to save a life on and around 16 October each year.
This year, South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) would like to hear from schools and organisations who would be interested in visiting to teach young people CPR during and around the week of 14-20 October.
SECAmb first took part in the initiative in 2016 and each year works with local partners including its local fire services to teach thousands of people the vital life skill.
SECAmb Head of Community Resilience, David Wells, said: “Learning CPR and how to save a life is something everyone should take the time to do. We’re hoping to visit as many schools and young person’s groups as possible with our dedicated team of volunteers and staff and would encourage people to find our more and sign up soon.”

While SECAmb’s focus for Restart a Heart Day is on teaching younger people CPR, everyone is encouraged to take the time to learn how to save a life. Further information is available online including via the British Heart Foundation website Learn how to do CPR | British Heart Foundation – BHF
The Resuscitation Council has created a “CPQR code” – a heart shaped QR code that directs people to a short video on how to do CPR
David added: “Learning to save a life is a skill you hope you will never need to use but one which sadly any of us could. This year’s Restart a Heart Day will mean thousands more people are ready to put the vital learning into practice.”
