The first stage of this study involves a survey of people from ethnic minority and white British backgrounds who have presented with injury in England and Scotland to one of four ambulance services (incl. SECAmb) or one of four emergency departments in the preceding 6 months. The survey will employ a questionnaire to explore any variations in participants’ knowledge of available services, their experiences of injury, their experience of, and satisfaction with the care provided, and their subsequent recovery.

The second stage will involve the collection of routine ambulance service data between August 2016 and July 2021 on all patients presenting with injury within the SECAmb catchment area of East Surrey Hospital. This data will be linked with routinely collected data held in NHS Digital and the Electronic Data Research and Innovation Service and subsequently analysed by the study team at Swansea University. No identifiable data will be made available to the research team.
