A large-scale emergency exercise saw SECAmb teams working alongside Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue.

Royal Holloway University in Egham was the setting for Exercise Whitehall, simulating the after-effects of a rave on a student campus with 20 patients who had been involved in an altercation and others who had taken recreational substances.

“This joint initiative brought together 45 colleagues from Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue, alongside 40 SECAmb staff and management, working in partnership with the fantastic team at Royal Holloway University,” said Podge Barrett, Paramedic and Exercise Lead.

As well as strengthening multi-agency collaboration, the exercise on September 6 aimed to test SECAmb’s Incident Response Plan for a multi-casualty event and Ten Second Triage drills, providing a positive and challenging learning environment.

"We are really pleased with how the exercise went, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all SECAmb departments who helped us make Exercise Whitehall such a huge success, including the umpires who attended to support colleagues’ learning," said Podge.

He also sent thanks to the volunteers from the Casualties Union, the charity that makes medical training as effective as possible by creating realistic, simulated injuries. “In particular, to Molly Winchester, who supported our team with the make-up moulage on the day and played a key role in the planning of the exercise.”
