Do you want to learn new skills and make a difference to our ambulance service?
We are recruiting Chaplains across SECAmb and are keen to hear from anyone who can bring enthusiasm, reliability, and commitment to this role.
Chaplaincy volunteers play an important part within our ambulance support network and provide pastoral support and care of staff, assisting them through any life problems or difficulties, and making referrals to other parties where appropriate.
Our chaplaincy volunteers are drawn from all faiths, denominations and all walks of life and must be credentialed within their own faith community, or philosophical tradition and be part of their structured accountability system.
We have current vacancies at Crawley EOC, Gatwick, Chertsey, Farnborough, Hastings and Tangmere.
Senior Chaplain Paul Fermor said: “I became a Chaplain in 1999 at the start of our Chaplaincy when everything was new, and we weren’t sure what was expected of us. We have come a long way since then and are now fully integrated into SECAmb.
“It has been an immense pleasure and privilege to be able to support the amazing ambulance staff, those out on the road and those back at the station. I’ve had fascinating conversations, deep discussions, listened to joy, sorrow, and anger, laughed and cried.
“It really is an amazing opportunity to walk alongside and support those who deal with challenging situations every day. I love my role.”
Volunteers must be willing to work in a multi-cultural setting, supporting without judgement those who may wish to explore their own concerns, beliefs, and values.
This role suits volunteers who enjoy meeting people, building rapport and have the maturity to listen to people who may be in distress.
There is an expectation of regular visits by the Chaplain to their allocated Operating Unit, and if appropriate, accompanying front-line staff during their work, as an observer.
