Members of our new Shadow Board met for the first time this week as the group held a workshop at its first face-to-face meeting.
SECAmb’s Shadow Board, which has been set up to inform the Trust Board’s discussions, will see members working closely with senior leaders to offer a fresh perspective on issues that matter to colleagues and patients.
The session on Wednesday 4 June marked the beginning of an exciting new engagement approach that aims to bringing fresh voices to the board while embracing the Trust’s core values and commitment to inclusivity and collaboration.
The workshop opened with introductions from all Shadow Board members before Margaret Dalziel, Chief Nursing Officer, led the session with an overview of our Trust Board’s structure. Margaret emphasised the significance of the unitary board model, highlighting how clinical, operational, and financial leadership work in partnership with the non-executive directors to deliver the Trust’s objectives.
Simon Bell, Chief Finance Officer, provided an insightful session on the financial and legal responsibilities of the Board while Director of Corporate Governance, Peter Lee, delivered an engaging talk outlining the principles and structures that underpin effective board leadership and decision-making.
The new members also heard from the Trust’s Business Intelligence team who demonstrated their innovative use of Power BI to enhance Integrated Quality Reporting (IQR). Their work has enabled the Board and wider organisation to visualise data clearly and take meaningful action to drive improvement.
Following the meeting members had the opportunity to observer their first Trust Board meeting.
The Shadow Board, which will meet again in July, is being led by non-executive directors, Max Puller and Karen Norman, who will share chairing responsibilities. Deputy Chief Executive, Margaret Dalziel is the executive sponsor, championing the initiative and ensuring a strong connection with the Trust Board.
