Ambulance Service (SECAmb) company secretary, Peter Lee, enjoyed
national success recently winning Company Secretary of the Year at
the prestigious Chartered Governance Institute awards.

Peter was the only NHS member of staff shortlisted in the
category at the awards, held in London last week, (27 November). He
saw off strong competition from a number of large private sector
organisations in winning the award.

The company secretary plays a vital governance role in
supporting SECAmb to make effective decisions, comply with
regulatory requirements and operate transparently and accountably.
Peter provides advice to the SECAmb board and ensures the Trust’s
governance structures operate efficiently.

SECAmb Chief Executive Philip Astle said: “I was very proud to
hear that Peter had won this prestigious award which is very much
deserved. Peter plays a pivotal role at SECAmb and he has provided
strong support as the Trust has made some significant improvements
in recent years. Although it won’t be obvious to everyone, his work
effects every single member of staff in one way or another. I’d
like to thank him for his continuing efforts and support.”

Peter added: “I was very proud to receive this award which
reflects as much on my colleagues. As an organisation we have all
worked very hard to bring about the improvements recently
demonstrated, especially in governance, which this particular award
