A Kent family has been reunited with the ambulance team who helped deliver their baby boy earlier this summer, right in their own living room.

On Monday, 29 September, new parents Becky and Nathan visited Ashford’s Make Ready Centre with their two-month-old son, Elliot, to thank Paramedics Aidan and Richard, and Emergency Medical Advisor (EMA), Adam, who together safely delivered Elliot at the family’s home on 1 August 2025.

Becky, who is also mum to five-year-old Lexi, had reached 40 weeks of pregnancy and initially thought she was experiencing braxton hicks contractions. After calling the local hospital triage line, she was advised to stay at home and try a bath.

However, shortly before 11pm, her contractions became stronger and just two minutes apart. Husband Nathan dialled 999 and was connected to Adam in the 999 control room who guided him through what to do next while an ambulance crew was dispatched.

Paramedics Aidan and Richard arrived at the couple’s home, and by 11:34pm baby Elliot had made his speedy arrival, weighing 8lbs. Mum and baby were taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for checks before returning home the following day to big sister Lexi and husband Nathan.

Two months later, the family reunited with the team who helped bring Elliot into the world to share their gratitude.

Becky said “Everything happened so quickly. One minute I thought it was Braxton hicks, and the next, Nathan was on the phone to Adam in the 999 control room and then Aidan and Richard came through the door. I can’t thank everyone enough for how calm, kind, and reassuring they were. Elliot has a very exciting birth story!”

Paramedic Aidan said it was a special moment to see the family again. “Elliot’s arrival was fast, but everything went really smoothly. Seeing him happy and healthy is the best part of our job and it was a special day getting to see them again.”

Emergency Medical Advisor Adam added “Taking a 999 call like that is always memorable. It was a privilege to be part of something so positive and to meet Becky, Nathan and Lexi in person, and of course, to have a cuddle with baby Elliot.”

Richard added “This was all of our first times having the privilege to reunite with a patient, and how special that it was bringing Elliot into this world.”
