IBIS (Intelligence Based Information System) helps our ambulance crews access important information about patients who have existing care plans or ongoing support needs. When someone calls 999, the system checks whether a care plan exists and makes sure the right people are informed.
Matching 999 Calls to Care Plans
When a 999 call comes in, it is automatically checked against IBIS to see whether the caller has a care plan recorded. If a match is found, our clinicians are notified while they are on their way to the patient.
Supporting Clinicians on Scene
Once on scene, ambulance clinicians can contact our Emergency Operations Centre to review the patient’s care plan. This helps them understand the person’s history, needs and wishes so they can make the best clinical decisions.
Keeping Community Teams Informed
IBIS can alert community healthcare professionals—such as district nurses, case managers or out‑of‑hours teams—when their patient calls 999 or is taken to hospital. This helps them join up care and support the patient quickly if needed
Sharing Updates After the Incident
After the patient has been treated, IBIS automatically sends a short clinical summary to the person’s usual care team. This ensures follow‑up can continue smoothly and everyone involved has the most recent information
