At
SECAmb we want to raise and increase awareness of IDAHOBiT and help
stamp out all discrimination and everyone has a part to
 play.
May 17 is an international
day against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
According to widely held
opinion, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before,
 but did you know…
 ·         In 86 countries
 globally, homosexual acts remain illegal
 ·         In many countries
lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and those who identify as trans are
often murdered simply for their sexuality or gender identity
 ·         Recent media
reports indicate concentration camps for gay men have
 been opened in Chechnya.
Every living person has a sexuality and this
is part of who we are as individuals.  IDAHOBiT, held annually
on 17th May, is an identified day to promote anti-homophobic,
 anti-transphobic and anti-biphobic messages.
IDAHOBiT aims to increase
awareness, and to provide a platform for activity at all levels in
the fight against discrimination and persecution. May 17th was
chosen as the day of the event because homosexuality was removed
from the International Classification of Diseases of the World
Health Organisation (WHO) on May 17th, 1990.
As much as May 17 is a day against
violence and oppression, it is also a day to promote freedom,
 diversity and acceptance.
This is an invitation for you
to play your part by challenging discrimination and supporting
initiatives that support tolerance and acceptance of everyone as an
individual, celebrating the many qualities that make us human.
