CQC overall rating 15 August 2019

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published its report  following a planned inspection of South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) in June and July 2019.

The report judges the Trust to be ‘Good’ overall and NHS. Below is a summary of our ratings for each of the core domains.

The NHS 111 service operated by SECAmb was not  inspected this time.  However it is rated as requires improvement but is not in special measures. You can view the last report undertaken about the NHS 111 service that the Trust provides here.

The ratings have been determined by how we performed during our inspection against the five CQC domains of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-Led. The inspections considered the standards of our clinical practice and patient care, the processes around our decision making, our core business systems, how well our policies and procedures were put in to practice and how we addressed areas of concern and shared lessons learned. The information was gathered by the CQC inspection team through staff focus groups, senior manager interviews, intelligence monitoring, stations visits, hospital visits and feedback from staff and patients.

What next?

The Trust’s Director of Quality & Patient Safety is also our nominated individual for the CQC. Her portfolio focuses on compliance and brings together some key workstreams including risk management, complaints, safeguarding and medicines management.

The Trust’s aim is to receive a rating of ‘outstanding’ by 2022.  We will provide updates on how we aim to achieve this through our board meetings.
