A new piece of legislation will be shortly coming into force on Friday, 25 May 2018. This is known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and replaces the current Data Protection Act 1998.
It is a strengthening of the current Data Protection Act and is designed to enable individuals to have better control of their personal data. This change affects ALL organisations who deal with personal information.
In many areas, GDPR simply reflects existing best practice. As a Trust, SECAmb already has a robust information governance framework in place and patient confidentiality is and will always remain at the forefront of our organisation. There are polices in place and we ensure that there is a legal basis for sharing information.
As a Trust, we ensure that we clearly document the information we hold and that it is only accessible or shared with those individuals who have a legitimate reason (legal basis) for access.
In line with the new legislation three new privacy notices have been produced – these provide Patients, Employees and Foundation Trust Members with information about their personal data.
