Our Chair, Usman Khan, has shared with colleagues his decision to leave SECAmb in March of this year to take up a full-time Executive Director role elsewhere in the NHS.

We will now work closely with our Council of Governors to appoint a new chair to ensure stability.

In December 2024 we announced that we had begun to work with our colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service to explore creating a group model. The new appointment will be for a minimum 12-month period to ensure continuity while we await the outcome of this work.

Usman said: “While I am obviously delighted to have the opportunity to take on a new challenge, I am sad to be leaving SECAmb and the fantastic team led by our Chief Executive Simon Weldon.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with SECAmb, have learnt a great deal about the ambulance service and have been incredibly impressed with the commitment and care shown by our people. I would like to offer my thanks to Simon, his team, my fellow non-executive directors and governors for the support they given me and to our system partners for the open and positive way in which they have engaged.

“I remain absolutely committed to ensuring that the progress SECAmb has made during the past 18 months continues.

SECAmb Chief Executive, Simon Weldon, said: “I’d like to thank Usman for the energy and perspective he has brought to the role of Chair, which has helped us to build solid foundations across the organisation as we continue our improvement journey. It’s been a pleasure working alongside him and I wish him well with his new role.”
