A schoolboy who was thrown into the air after being hit by a car has made a miraculous recovery and has now reunited with the ambulance crews who helped to save his life.
Henry, from Snodland, Kent, was just seven years old when the accident happened on 14 July 2024. Henry was with his dad, Chris on their way to watch the England Euro Final at their local football club when Henry stepped into the road and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. Chris immediately dialled 999 was connected to Emergency Medical Advisor, Lorna Harris.
Resource dispatchers Amie Spring, Charmaine Wright, and Dispatch Team Leader Teresa Gibbs coordinated multiple resources who arrived at the scene within seven minutes.
The Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex also responded, airlifting Henry to Kings College Hospital in London, where he underwent emergency surgery for a bleed on his brain, a fractured femur and multiple broken bones.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone involved, Henry spent a week in hospital before returning home and making an extraordinary recovery. Seven months after the terrifying incident, he was reunited with Paramedics and crewmates, Ian Grimble, and Stewart Dimmick, and dispatch team colleagues Amie and Teresa to thank them in person.
Henry is now back at school and is looking forward to starting up football again soon. The team gifted Henry a brand-new football to enjoy when he is back playing.
Speaking about the reunion, Henry’s mum Laura said “We are forever grateful for the quick response and expert care Henry received that day. Seeing him happy and back at school is something we couldn’t have imagined in those early hours after the accident. It’s been truly humbling to meet those who played such a vital role in his recovery."
