Five life-saving defibrillators have been installed across the Isle of Sheppey in memory of former colleague, Ryan O’Bray.
The installations mark a significant milestone for Ryan’s Legacy, a fundraising initiative established by Ryan’s parents, Rob and Lisa O’Bray, following the loss of their son. Ryan worked as an Associate Ambulance Practitioner at Sheppey Ambulance Station for seven years and was known for his caring and compassionate nature.
Determined to create something positive in Ryan’s memory, Rob and Lisa launched Ryan’s Legacy to help protect people within the community he served. Thanks to the generosity of our own colleagues, friends and local supporters, the initiative has raised an incredible amount, enabling the purchase of defibrillators and secure all-weather cabinets for locations across the island.
The defibrillators have been installed at Harty Ferry Inn, Sheerness Golf Club, Ashcroft Coast Holiday Park, Seacliffe Holiday Estate and Sheppey Ambulance Station. Each one carries a memorial plaque in Ryan’s name, ensuring his legacy lives on through equipment that could one day help save a life.
Rob and Lisa have also taken on guardianship of the devices, allowing them to be notified if a defibrillator is used. For them, it is a powerful reminder that Ryan continues to make a difference within the community he cared so deeply about.
Alongside Ryan’s Legacy, our own SECAmb Charity is helping to make a lasting difference to the health, wellbeing and resilience of communities across the South East. Since January 2026, charitable funding has enabled more than 2,181 members of the public to receive CPR training and secured £142,000 to expand life-saving education and community engagement initiatives across the region. The charity also supports a range of projects that benefit patients, communities and colleagues, from funding equipment and training to providing wellbeing support.
