Two South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics had
a day out to remember when they attended Buckingham Palace as
guests at a Royal Garden Party.
Clinical Operations Manager (COM) for Burgess Hill,
Haywards Heath, Lewes and Hove, Roy Nightingale and
recently-retired Steve Andrews, from Bognor Regis, were nominated
to attend the event for their roles in attending the Shoreham
Airshow disaster and their long service. They attended the event,
hosted by The Queen, with their wives on Tuesday 10 May.
Steve said: “I was very proud at being chosen to
attend on behalf of everyone at SECAmb who attended the Shoreham
Airshow disaster. It was a very special day and being able to park
on The Mall and walk through the gates to the palace was surreal.
The obvious highlight of the day was seeing The Queen who looks
fantastic at 90. It was an honour to represent SECAmb albeit with a
feeling of obvious sadness at the loss of life on that tragic
day.”
Roy added: “I was extremely proud to be invited to
attend such a smashing day and represent everyone at SECAmb
involved in attending the Shoreham Airshow. It was a great
experience to see The Queen and for both Steve and I to be able to
have such special memory to treasure.”
Sussex Regional Operations Manager James Pavey added:
“Both Steve and Roy have served their local communities with a huge
amount of dedication. I am delighted they were able to represent
the service and their colleagues at such a prestigious event.
