Exactly one month after the safe arrival of baby Hallie at their Chatham home, new parents Kloe and Matt were reunited with the SECAmb colleagues who helped bring her into the world.

The unplanned home birth happened at 39 weeks’ pregnant after Kloe had been sent home from hospital with instructions to rest. However, shortly after returning home, it was clear baby Hallie had other plans.

At around 06:00 on 20 February, Kloe started experiencing an intense amount of pain, so Matt called 999. He was connected to Emergency Medical Advisor Coach, Maisy Xavier who guided him through how to deliver baby Hallie before crews arrived.

Resource Dispatcher Lauren Jolley coordinated crewmates, India Osborn and Benjamin Swinn, to the family home, alongside Student Paramedic Practitioner, Harry Palmer.

In just four minutes, the trio were by Kloe’s side as she welcomed baby Hallie into the world. Mum and baby were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for some checks before being discharged to enjoy every second at home as a family, with big brother Luca very excited to meet his new sister.

One month to the day, the family visited the Trust’s Medway Make Ready Centre where they were reunited with Newly Qualified Paramedic, India Osborn, Student Paramedic Practitioner, Harry Palmer and Emergency Medical Advisor Coach, Maisy Xavier.

“I went home with the biggest smile on my face after knowing Hallie was born safely with the crew on scene – it truly made my day.” said Maisy.

Matt said “My wife and I are so appreciative of what they did, and it's felt like closure on a traumatic morning by being able to say thank you. You all do such an amazing job and there isn't enough recognition of this.”

India added “It was so special to be able to reunite with the family on the one-month anniversary of Hallie’s birth and I am so pleased and proud to be a part of their story.”

Harry said: “It’s rare we have the pleasure of delivering babies into the world, and so this is one I’ll never forget. It was a privilege to reunite with the family.”
