A Worthing mother who went into labour six weeks early was able to introduce her now young toddler to the SECAmb team who helped safely deliver him.
Georgia Tulip, 27, and her partner Craig Murtagh, 28, were reunited with the team who attended the scene back in November 2022, after labour progressed very quickly.
Worried about the outcome for their now two-year-old son, Albie, as Georgia experienced severe nausea and vomiting throughout her pregnancy, 999 help was quickly dispatched.
First to arrive on scene, Trainee Associate Ambulance Practitioner (TAAP) Samantha Riches vividly remembers the intensity of the scene.
She said
When we arrived, Georgia was already in active labour, and it was clear this baby wasn’t going to wait! We all had to act fast, guiding Georgia through each step to bring Albie safely into the world.
Paramedics Rebecca Lemon and Kat Fox also attended, both remembering the urgency and relief that filled those moments.
Kat said:
It was a very quick labour. I still recall the look of sheer relief on Craig’s face when Albie let out his first cry. He had a great set of lungs, which was incredibly reassuring for all of us.
From the 999 call to delivery, it took a speedy 14 minutes for Albie to make an entrance into this world.
Georgia said:
I never expected we’d be delivering our baby at home. Cutting the cord felt surreal, but the paramedics were so calm and supportive—they made a terrifying situation feel manageable.
Once Albie was delivered, they blue-lighted mum and baby to Worthing Hospital, where midwives took over to deliver the placenta.
Albie, named in honour of Craig and Georgia’s beloved football team Brighton and Hove Albion, was then placed in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) for monitoring.
Reflecting on the reunion, Kat said
It was so lovely to see Georgia and Craig, and what a beautiful little family they have. It’s amazing to see Albie flourishing as a toddler after the surprise start, he had in life and his unexpected stay in hospital. We wish them all the best for the future, and a huge thank you to them both for making this reunion possible.
