As part of our continuing commitment to ensuring SECAmb is a place where everyone feels safe, respected and heard, we have today shared with staff the outcomes of an independent Culture Review, alongside a summary of the findings and actions we will take in response.
The summary here is being published openly in the interests of transparency, while protecting the confidentiality and anonymity of those who participated.
This Review is not a standalone exercise. Over recent years, the Trust has used learning from a range of reviews, staff feedback, assessments and improvement programmes, both locally and nationally, to strengthen leadership, improve staff experience and support cultural improvement. This Review is the latest contribution to that ongoing journey and will help inform the next phase of our work.
The Review found that, in some areas, behaviours have fallen short of the standards we expect, including how people treat each other, leadership behaviours and confidence in speaking up. We are grateful to those who shared their experiences, helping us identify where further improvements are needed.
Positively, the Review also recognised the progress made in recent years, including improvements in leadership visibility, openness and staff engagement. While this is encouraging, it highlighted that these improvements are not experienced consistently across the organisation and identified areas where further work is required.
The findings will be used alongside existing improvement programmes to strengthen leadership standards, psychological safety, safeguarding and confidence in raising concerns, ensuring that everyone experiences the standards and culture we expect.
Creating and sustaining a positive culture requires continuous effort. By learning from this Review, alongside other sources of feedback and insight, we remain committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, included and empowered to deliver the best possible care for our patients.
