A proud milestone weekend for South East Coast Ambulance Service’s (SECAmb) Chief Executive, Simon Weldon, as his marathon training stepped up a gear and he completed his first half marathon.

With just over a month to go until he takes on the incredible challenge of the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, 12 April, Simon clocked up a remarkable 13 miles recently – halfway to the finish line.

Simon is running in support of SECAmb Charity, raising funds to help us go further for our patients and communities. The charity plays a vital role in enabling us to deliver initiatives that make a real, lasting difference across our service.

Thanks to the recently relaunched charity, we’ve already welcomed three new Community Resuscitation Officers working across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. These important roles have been made possible through funding from SECAmb Charity, supported by a grant from NHS Charities Together.

Simon said: “Their focus is simple but incredibly important – helping more people gain the skills and confidence to act in an emergency through CPR and basic life support training. By increasing awareness and building confidence and partnerships in our communities, they are helping more people feel able to step forward when every second counts.

“This is a clear example of how charitable support enables us to deliver practical initiatives that make a real difference for patients and our communities.”

Every mile Simon runs is helping to raise funds that support life-saving work like this. If you’re able to, please consider donating here – your support will help SECAmb fund more initiatives, strengthen our communities, and ultimately save more lives.
