Mum‑to‑be Chanice unexpectedly went into labour at home and with support from ambulance clinicians, her baby girl was delivered only 17 minutes after the 999 call.

On the evening of Wednesday, 22 October 2025, Chanice, who was 40 weeks pregnant, was at home alone when she suddenly began experiencing contractions. Her partner, Mark, arrived home shortly afterwards and immediately called 999, with Emergency Medical Advisor Macklin answering the call at 19:26.

The call was categorised as the highest priority emergency and a team of six clinicians were dispatched to the family home. Trainee Associate Ambulance Practitioner, Alex arrived on scene within four minutes, followed shortly by crewmates Sophie and Emma, alongside Carly and Troy. Critical Care Paramedic, Liz also attended to provide advanced clinical support as it became clear baby Ellarie was ready to make her entrance into the world.

The team worked to support Chanice through an unexpected home birth, and at approximately 19:43, just 17 minutes after the 999 call, baby Ellarie Grace was born happy and healthy.

Following the delivery, mum and baby were taken to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM) in Margate for routine checks, before being discharged home to begin life as a family of six.

Exactly two months to the day after Ellarie’s arrival, the family visited Thanet’s Make Ready Centre to reunite with Alex, Emma, Sophie and Liz, who were delighted to see baby Ellarie thriving and ready to celebrate her first Christmas with her family.

Associate Ambulance Practitioner, Emma said “Calls like this stay with you forever. Everything happened very quickly, but the whole team worked together calmly to make sure mum and baby were safe. It was especially exciting for me and Sophie as it was the first baby we’ve helped to deliver and being reunited with the family and seeing Ellarie doing so well really is very special.”

Dad, Mark said “Their calm, clear communication and coordinated approach ensured the best possible outcome, a safe and healthy delivery of our baby. We are truly grateful for their outstanding support during such a critical and emotional moment.”
