The operating uniform for SECAmb’s Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) is changing colour.
New ground kit designed in high visibility yellow and navy blue will provide enhanced protection for specialist operations.
“The kit ensures our teams can be seen effectively in situations with poor visibility, like rain, snow, dusk or fog, to better protect our Paramedics in hazardous conditions,” said Westley Shaw, OUM for Specialist Operations.
While the new PPE means better safety for teams operating in high-risk environments, having to change from the former green uniform does pose some challenges.
“HART operatives have become easily recognisable on the ground in recent years, and this change may impact the ability of other responders to quickly recognise those wearing this new uniform,” said Wes.
“We’re really keen for SECAmb operational staff and partner agencies to be aware of this new version and colour scheme, so they understand our purpose at an incident.”
While always ready to respond to HART incidents, the teams are equally committed to supporting frontline operations, patients and crews.
“We currently provide responses to Category 1 emergencies and life-threatening incidents, ensuring patients receive care quickly. We do this by dedicating one HART Primary Response Vehicle, at each of our sites, to this specific purpose every shift,” said Wes.
