CPRathon

One hour. One challenge. Help save more lives.

Take part part in our CPR-athon!

Every year, thousands of people suffer a cardiac arrest, and knowing how to perform CPR can make a lifesaving difference.

This Restart a Heart Day, SECAmb and the SECAmb Charity want to make it bigger than ever. We’re bringing together our people, volunteers, local organisations, businesses and communities for one big challenge – how long can we keep hands on chests?

Teams will take turns performing CPR as part of our CPR-athon, helping to raise awareness of CPR, encourage more people to learn lifesaving skills and raise funds for the SECAmb Charity.

So, what’s a CPRathon? Across the two days, teams will take on one-hour slots, working together to keep continuous CPR going on our training manikins. Team members can swap in and out throughout the hour, so it’s very much a team challenge – and no previous CPR experience is needed.

Alongside the challenge, our ambulance crews and community resilience officers will be talking to members of the public, demonstrating CPR and giving people the opportunity to learn and practise lifesaving skills.

This year, we’re also using the event to highlight the gender gap in bystander CPR. Research suggests women are less likely to receive CPR following a cardiac arrest, with St John Ambulance finding that 23% of people said they would be less likely to perform CPR on a woman.

When somebody suffers a cardiac arrest, every second matters, and hesitation can mean precious time lost. We want to use the CPRathon to challenge some of the perceptions behind this, raise awareness and help more people feel confident performing CPR on anyone who needs it.

Participating teams will receive recognition for their support, including a certificate, and we’ll be sharing and celebrating the CPRathon through South East Coast Ambulance Service’s communications.

Join us, fundraise, donate and help us keep hands on chests!
