SECAmb takes delivery of cuddly friends

6 June 2018

Teddies presentationSouth East Coast Ambulance Service has taken a delivery of 150 teddy bears from East Grinstead & District Lions. The bears, which have been provided by the Lions club for many years, help comfort young patients and children of patients.

Ambulance crews in the area will carry the extra little passenger following recent fundraising efforts of the Lions.

Crews are able to demonstrate a clinical skill on the bear and replicate this on the child to offer reassurance at the most distressing times. The bears can also act as a distraction and comfort to children while their parents are being cared for.

Presenting the bears to Jo Crerar, SECAmb Operating Unit Manager and Phil Smith, Operational Team Leader, were Club President Mike Barty, with fellow Lions, Brian Richens, Roger Mead, Roger Sutcliffe, Harry Horsburgh, Ian Forbes, Susie Forbes and the longest serving member of 49 years, Don James.

Jo said: “We’re delighted to accept this latest donation from East Grinstead & District Lions. A small comforting distraction such as this can really help our youngest patients. We’re very grateful for their fundraising efforts.”

It is the 50th year since the formation of the club in 1968. In that time they have raised more than one million pounds for local good causes.
